Oxford Reference Online
Sources include the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, and Oxford collections of modern and scientific quotations. "Quick" or "Advanced" searching. Search by topic, people, dates, or full-text. Available to UT (Knoxville campus) faculty, staff, and students.


Bartlett's Familiar Quotations
The 10th edition of Bartlett's (1919) provides an alphabetical list of authors, a chronological list of primary authors, and a searchable index of quotes. This is an authoritative source for quotations, but keep in mind that it does not contain modern-day quotations.


Book of Famous Quotes
Quotations arranged by category or alphabetically by the first word in the first sentence.


The Columbia World of Quotations
1996 edition. An authoritative collection of 65,000 essential quotations. Entries from more than 5,000 authors and speakers are multiply classified into 6,500 subjects.

Search for specific quotations by phrase, author, or topic.


Simpson's Contemporary Quotations
1988 edition. The most notable quotations 1950-1988. Author, subject, and keyword searching.
