Standards define quality, characteristics, properties, methods or performance required of a product or service. The UT Libraries provides electronic access to 11,000 current and active standards through a subscription with the vendor, IHS. Other standards are made available for UT faculty, staff and students through a deposit account administered by Interlibrary Loan. Additionally, indexes, catalogs, current manuals, codebooks, standards and specifications from many organizations are available in Hodges Library.
Electronic Standards
To access the electronic ASTM standards, click here, or go to the Library Home Page at http://www.lib.utk.edu. Click on Databases/Indexes. Type ASTM in the search box. Once in the ASTM standards database, select "Subscriber Login" and then select "Specs & Standards." Under Quick Searches, select "By subscription only." Then put in the ASTM standards number, such as "ASTM A1." Be sure to LOGOUT when finished.
To request a known, non-ASTM standard, go to the library home page at http://www.lib.utk.edu. Click on Interlibrary Loan under "Use Our Services." Supply your NetID and password. Click on the Interlibrary Loan tab. Choose Technical Report/Standard. Fill out as much information as possible and submit. Interlibrary Loan will notify you when your standard has arrived. Most, but not all standards, are yours to keep at no charge. Electronically available standards will arrive in 24 to 48 hours. Print standards will take longer.
