When the Dean of Libraries wants a student perspective on library services and resources, he can turn to his Student Advisory Committee.
Being able to call on a standing committee composed of undergraduate and graduate students from various colleges and disciplines offers the Libraries a ready-made focus group and a sounding board on the issues and opportunities facing academic libraries. Staff from across the Libraries seek input from the committee on current priorities and projects, and committee members themselves introduce topics for discussion.
Among its invaluable contributions to the UT Libraries, this year’s Dean’s Student Advisory Committee:
- Provided input on the Libraries’ website and future web presence
- Engaged in discussion around Belonging and Engagement events and initiatives
- Visited and shared their questions and ideas on the new Medbery Makerspace
- Provided input on the Libraries’ instructional resources and how to help students learn about library spaces, including Pendergrass Library
Dean’s Student Advisory Committee members are selected from among self-nominations and nominations by college deans and directors. This year, for the first time, the committee included members from UT’s FUTURE Program.
Thank you, Dean’s Student Advisory Committee members, for your service to the Libraries and the university.
