I chose this book because it was one of my beloved mother's favorite books. My mother loved reading. She loved learning. She loved traveling and learning about other places, other cultures, and others' lives. And she encouraged me to love the same. Despite the fact that, for most of my K-12 years I performed poorly, and few of my teachers predicted a particularly bright future for me, my mother believed in my abilities and encouraged me at every stage of my journey. Her love for me, belief in me, and support of me are the reasons for my success. Without her steadfast love and support I would not be who I am and where I am today. I try to live my life so as to make my mama proud. Although I lost her in 2009, I have no doubt that she would immensely proud of this accomplishment. So I have chosen Anne of Green Gables to honor the memory of Lynda Danner Stokes, my mama, my biggest supporter, and my best friend.
