New Self-checkout Experience at Hodges Library
Library users can now check out their own library books from Hodges Library — without standing in line at the Public Services desk. Users can checkout books at the Meescan kiosk or from their mobile devices.
Self-checkout is available only at Hodges Library.
Using the Kiosk
- Bring your books to the Meescan Kiosk, just outside the Medbery Makerspace (209 Hodges Library).
- Pull up your library account. Use the kiosk screen to scan the barcode on the back of your VolCard ID (if you have a plastic ID card). If you have a digital VolCard, use the contactless reader to pull up your account using your smartphone, AppleWatch, or VolCard (if it has the contactless chip).
- Checkout the book. Lay the book on the flatbed unit to scan the book’s barcode and desensitize the security strip.
- You may opt to receive an email receipt.
Using the Mobile App
- Download the mobile app to your iOS or Android device. The app name is: UTLib-Checkout.
- After downloading the app, login with your UT NetID and Password through the campus Single Sign-On CAS.
- Use your camera to scan the barcode of the item you want to check out.
- Using an app on your mobile device, you can check out books from anywhere in the stacks. But you’ll still need to stop by the Meescan Kiosk (outside 209 Hodges Library) to desensitize the book. Before exiting the library, stop at the Meescan Kiosk and simply slide the book on the flatbed desensitizer to scan the barcode and desensitize the security strip.
