Description

This is an extended hours Summer position in the Resource Sharing department of Hodges Library. The ideal candidate would be able to work 4-5 hours per day, at least four of the available work days (Sun-Thurs), with at least two of those hours falling between the hours of 4pm and 10pm. Split shifts for the Summer are available, if candidate would prefer to work some hours in the day and some in the evening. Preference will be given to candidates who anticipate being able to continue 3-4 hour availability, Sun-Thurs evenings in the Fall semester.

Assists with the daily operations of the Resource Sharing unit, retrieving and processing materials and electronic requests for delivery to patrons and other libraries.
This position will begin as soon as possible.

Responsibilities & Duties

Duties include:

  • Returning loans from other libraries
  • Checking out and sorting outgoing loans (books, microfilm, etc..) for our patrons using a variety of Resource Sharing systems
  • Locating electronic articles for borrowing libraries
  • Scanning articles from paper sources
  • Updating systems for materials going out and coming back in
  • Retrieving loans
  • Checking the online catalog and the main library stacks for items held by UT
  • Processing finished loans for return to the lending library
  • Assist with data entry
  • A variety of other tasks as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Position will regularly require crouching low and reaching high to retrieve materials from the stacks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous office experience, including keyboard entry and computer knowledge preferred
  • We’re looking for someone who is detail oriented, and will be able to work well independently
  • Knowledge of the UTK campus, this library, and reference tools is very helpful
