In Memoriam
— Edward Zambara, a former voice teacher in the UT School of Music and the founding director of the Knoxville Opera, died Aug 7 from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. One of the most sought-after voice teachers in the United States and a mentor to many opera singers, Zambara was 81. He was a resident of Brookline, Mass., and was teaching at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music at the time of his death. In 1952, Zambara joined the UT music faculty. He went to the University of Oregon in 1958 but returned to Knoxville in 1961, where he served as chairman of UT’s voice department until 1981. In 1980, he received the Tennessee Governor’s Award in the Arts. Zambara was buried Friday in Boston.
