Digital and Remote Services

Many library services and resources are already available to students and faculty from the Libraries homepage, lib.utk.edu, including:

  • Access to information/research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and the community via chat or text 
  • Online access to information, scholarly articles, e-books, data, digital collections, and multimedia, including expanded access to ebooks and other materials
  • Discipline-specific research guides and tutorials created by librarians
  • Open Educational Resources including open textbooks
  • Research tools such as EndNote, PowerNotes, GIS tools, and more
  • Librarians to instruct in the use of library resources and technologies in all disciplines

As classes transition to an online environment, the University Libraries will make every effort to assure that students and faculty have access to needed research materials, and assistance with research and teaching.

Oit services

The OIT HelpDesk and Student Computer Support walk-in services are closed. You may contact the OIT HelpDesk by phone (865-974-9900), chat, or online help form.

Special Collections

The Betsey B. Creekmore Special Collections and University Archives, which also includes the Modern Political Archives, will provide research assistance through email, Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. While researchers will NOT have physical access to collections, our staff are here to answer any questions your may have and may be able to help you find appropriate digital primary sources through the Libraries’ Digital Collections.  Please email us at special@utk.edu for assistance.

Information for Faculty and Instructors

Teaching Support

Note: Faculty and instructors should consider that students who use the Libraries’ technologies and services to complete assignments may not have access to resources that are physically located in the Libraries.

Access to online teaching and learning resources: 

  • More than 80 percent of the Libraries’ collections budget is used to purchase online resources; so, a vast number of library materials are available in a 24-hour framework and are easily integrated into online courses
    • Online access to information, scholarly articles, e-books, data, digital collections, and multimedia
    • Subject librarians to instruct in the use of library resources and technologies in all disciplines
  • Research guides are available for subject areas and individual courses
  • Self-paced tutorials, created by librarians, offer an introduction to the library website, research basics, and discipline-specific databases
  • Digital Collections Libraries Digital Collections provide access to images, books, artworks, manuscripts, musical scores, videos, and oral histories.

The Studio will provide chat support service to assist with media and design questions. Chat will be available on the studio homepage during the following hours:
