The University of Tennessee Libraries seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative and highly motivated individual for a newly created position that connects the UT Libraries and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Research Library. The successful candidate will support graduate students, faculty, and researchers at the ORNL joint institutes and interdisciplinary PhD programs.
This position maintains awareness of the research needs of those in the joint institutes and the Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education and collaborates with UT librarians and ORNL to deliver a range of library and research support. This position provides specialized library expertise and data support for researchers in these programs. This position will proactively build partnerships to provide in-depth consultation, engagement and instruction and to connect researchers with UT librarians and ORNL. This position will assist researchers and programs in demonstrating research impact and provide guidance with data location, manipulation and research visualization. Fostering communication and collaboration, this position will enhance research support offered by UT Libraries and ORNL partners.
The liaison serves as a resource to other liaisons at UT Libraries as they provide support for faculty and students across disciplines, particularly in STEM and interdisciplinary areas. Consulting with librarians at UT and ORNL, the liaison develops and shares best practices for using data for demonstrating research impact and research visualization.
This liaison will actively participate in team-based and library-wide liaison activities to develop a shared vision for library resources and services which align with the UTK Libraries’ Strategic Plan.
- Serve as a liaison between UT Libraries and the ORNL Research Library, communicating user needs for appropriate referrals and the development of new services to support research
- Collaborate with discipline-based liaisons at UT to provide consultation and instruction to ORNL joint institutes, interdisciplinary PHD programs, and other researchers at UT
- Collaborate with librarians at UT and ORNL to develop collections and services to support specific research needs and build partnerships to support broader collaborations on shared collections between UT and ORNL
- Develop marketing and joint engagement activities with the UT Libraries and ORNL to raise awareness of resources to support research
- Promote scholars’ services and resources and advocate for new scholarly communication models
- Design and provide instruction and documentation on the interpretation, analysis, and visualization of data for UT liaisons as well as the research community
- Consult with librarians and individuals at UT and ORNL on the data visualization landscape to help researchers visualize and present their own data and to help UT Liaisons connect their researchers to the best resources
- Track and analyze data to show impact for candidates and researchers at joint institutes, the Bredesen Center, and for UT researchers
- Serve the institution and the profession through involvement in professional organizations and through cooperative efforts with other professionals and institutions
- Produce and disseminate scholarly work through publications, presentations, and other creative outlets
- Engage in continuing education and professional development
- Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program
- Demonstrated understanding of the research process and impact in the sciences
- Willingness to gain expertise in supporting data sciences through professional development opportunities and experience
- Ability to engage and serve diverse user populations and information environments
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills include the ability to build relationships across professional and disciplinary areas
- Proven commitment to customer service and user experience
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and as a team member
- Understanding of a variety of data including: textual, relational, and numerical
- Experience with data visualization or programming (using languages such as R or Python), or similar skill sets
- Background in a research library or education in STEM field
- Experience providing research consultation and instructional services
- Familiarity with LibGuides software or other web development tools

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of $52,000. Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment. Library faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.
