Resources in Our Collection

Pendergrass Library’s collection is organized by Library of Congress Classification (LCC). LCC divides all knowledge into 21 basic classes and identifies each class by a single letter of the alphabet. Most of these alphabetical classes are then divided into subclasses with an additional letter or letters to form two- or three-letter combinations. These combinations are organized into an approximate hierarchy that moves from general to more specific topics as the combinations move through the alphabet. Combinations are paired with a single number or span of numbers to denote all materials relating to a certain topic. In example, Class S includes all knowledge relating to agriculture. Subclass SF includes all knowledge relating to animal husbandry and animal science. Subclass SF 277-360 includes all knowledge on the topic of horse care and husbandry.
