PERSONAL SUBGROUP OUTLINE
POLITICAL CORRESPONDENCE 1965-1966 (0.2 cu. ft.)
Description: These three folders contain originals of political correspondence to and copies of correspondence from Baker during the two years prior to serving in the Senate. Various types of correspondence are included such as invitations to Republican events; requests to give speeches; thank you letters to Baker for his assistance in obtaining his father-in-law, Sen. Dirksen, for a speaking engagement; letters encouraging Baker to run for governor and senator; correspondence about Baker's participation in political events; etc. Some attachments and related material are also included.
Arrangement: Folders are in chronological order by year; documents within folders are not in any order.

SCHEDULING AND SPEECH FILE 1985-2/1987 (2.5 cu. ft.)
Description: Folders include some or all of the following: schedules, contracts, correspondence, memos, notes, brochures, booklets, receipts, guest lists, agendas, programs, speeches, clippings, press releases, invitations, seating charts, and transcripts relating to events Sen. Baker was to attend. Harry Walker, Inc. is the company Sen. Baker contracted with to arrange many of his speaking engagements. Many original file folder labels included "Harry Walker" in some form; these are indicated by "HW" on the new folder titles. Louisa Holloman was Baker's assistant who was in charge of these files. These files cover the time period between Baker leaving the Senate (1/85) and becoming the White House Chief of Staff (2/87). The materials in each folder often date from several months before to several months after the event. The dates on the "Possible Future" folders are the dates on the documents themselves not the dates of the events since the date of the event was not established yet.
Arrangement: A single page of scheduling guidelines is at the front of the series followed by folders of possible future events that have no specific date; these folders are arranged alphabetically by state in which the event is to take place with several states in each folder. These are followed by folders of specific events that are arranged chronologically by the date of the event.
