Citation Styles

Most of these sites give examples of how to cite sources in the selected style. None, however, should be considered to represent the complete style manual. Call numbers and locations are provided for print manuals in the UT Libraries collections.

For guides specific to the University of Tennessee, see the UT Guide to the Preparation of Theses and Dissertations (for graduate students writing theses or dissertations) and the UT Editorial Style Guide (for guidance in creating University communications).

For an overview of styles used in various disciplines, see Diana Hacker’s Research and Documentation Online.

For help with bibliographic management software see the Citation Management Resources page. The University subscribes to a site license for EndNote. The Libraries also support Zotero, which is freely available on the Web.
