The annual conference is one way TNGIC sustains its commitment to the GIS community in Tennessee by providing a forum for promoting geographic information access, education and advocating professional standards in GIS. We invite you to participate by presenting a paper or workshop, organizing and/or moderating a technical session or panel discussion or entering the Poster Contest. We are interested in your input about technical workshops, sessions, panel discussions and speakers you would like at the conference. Share your expertise in real-world applications of GIS and mapping software, solutions for enterprisewide mapping and GIS, and map and chart production. Join your colleagues at the Mapping and GIS Conference in Tennessee.

Workshops
(Participants in conference workshops earn CEU's from MTSU )
Introduction to ArcGIS I (for ArcView 8, ArcEditor 8, and ArcInfo
8)
March 27-28, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Taught by ESRI/Charlotte Staff Instructor
This two-day course introduces students to ArcGIS and provides the foundation for becoming a successful ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo user. Participants learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. Attendees learn hands-on how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts.
Audience: This course is for those who are new to ArcGIS or to geographic information systems in general.
Fee $250.00
Introduction to GIS

The workshop will focus on "Building GIS from Imagery." We will examine how imagery can be used to extract, create and update data. Imagery is an essential component of any GIS because it not only serves as a data set, but it is also an excellent source of data creation. We will cover the tools used in image processing, sources and availability of imagery, automatic feature extraction, land cover analysis, classification, photogrammetry, and other basics of ERDAS IMAGINE. There will be 15-minute presentations by: Peter Gottfried, Miller Legg and Associates, Space Imaging products Chris Ogier, Merrick & Company, DigitalGlobe products Scott Bullard, LizardTech, MrSID
