Meeting No. 4
May 21, 1999
Nashville, TN
Present: Yildiz Binkley, Rosa Burnett, Sheila Delacroix,
Paula Kaufman, Sue Loper, Les Pourciau, Winston Walden, Peter Consacro
(TBR liaison), Tom Singarella (UT liaison)
1. The Board reviewed the May 1, 1999 Final Implementation Report on
the Universal Borrowers Card Project. It noted with pleasure that
all TBR and UT libraries are participating. It offered thanks
to the Borrowers Card Task Force, chaired by Deb Thomas of UTK, and
to Jean Jackson of Pellissippi State, who is the first Coordinator of
the project. The board expressed its intent to evaluate the program
after its first two years of operation.
2. Rosa Burnett reported on the successful training workshops that
were held this spring. Many staff are requesting additional workshops.
The Board congratulated her and her task force and asked that the task
force recommend a topic for the next workshop series, which the Board
intends to make an annual spring event.
3. Annelle Huggins, chair of the Joint Database Purchase task force
reported by written report that the task force is waiting to see to
which databases TEL will subscribe. It recommended that TALC identify
one library within its membership to do all the group negotiations.
After considerable discussion the Board decided to ask the Task Force
to identify possible subcontractors to do negotiations for the group
and determine feasibility and costs; SOLINET and (eventually) TEL were
mentioned as strong possibilities.
4. Several potential future projects were identified. (Names
of board members responsible for investigating and or implementing are
in parentheses):
- Document delivery among all TALC members (Winston Walden)
- Virtual catalog/gateway for OPACS (wait to see if this is a feature
of TEL)
- Annual meeting for all TALC members, perhaps in conjunction with
TLA's CUL meeting (Sheila Delacroix)
- Develop statistical database (Kaufman to see if UTK's SIS will
participate)
5. The Board viewed a short video about the Renaissance Center and discussed
possible implications and opportunities for library support and services.
6. New officers for 1999/2000:
- Sheila Delacroix, chair
- Rosa Burnett, chair-elect
