Diversity Committee Meeting Minutes September 13, 2007

Announcements: Allison reported on her work on the Diversity
Web page. She is still having technical difficulties.
Allison also announced that Ann Viera suggested that the committee
explore using lanyards as an expression of diversity.

Vote: We voted in favor of making an effort to invite in Rita Sanders
Geier for a Let’s Talk About it starting with getting clarity from
Barbara on what her plans are with inviting Ms. Geier to the Libraries.
The committee voted to have lunch with the residents.

The meeting concluded with the two subgroups meeting:

The outreach committee:
Agreed to use the Let’s Talk About series as a way to reach
other campus diversity efforts. We are committed to providing
Diversity awareness in this program versus merely using
this as a social platform.

The staff enrichment committee:
Agreed to support the Native American Association in their endeavor to broaden campus awareness of Native Americans by helping with a film series in the library to honor Native American month in November.
To continue the previous practice of honoring months traditionally honored nationally such as Women’s month, African American Month, GLBT month, and Americans With Disabilities month with a film series to broaden awareness of staff and faculty, as well as others on campus, of the issues others face when not viewed as being part of the ‘majority’.
Discussed the Social Committee taking over the December party and Allison is to invite Elizabeth Young to the next meeting for further discussion on this matter
Discussed Jeanine’s Disability is a Matter of Family Proposal
Agreed to invite the student president and faculty adviser from the Native American Association to our next meeting to discuss Native American month and see what they want to come from our participation
