II. Group Reports & Updates
A. Staff Enrichment
Student Recognition – The event will be on Feb. 17, 2:30-4:00, in the Staff Lounge, 6ht floor. The criteria for recognition is to have worked for the Libraries a total of 24 months by the end of May. Students have been asked to choose a book by Jan. 30. Mark Jarrell, Reference, will assist in photographing the students. Martha Rudolf, Outreach, will be asked for help in making buttons honoring SLA’s.
B. Outreach & Collaboration
Culture Corner – Kawanna has solicited suggestions for a spring theme from library staff, with a deadline of January 16th. The Committee will decide at the January 29th meeting. The creation of resource handouts at the Corner was suggested. The Beacon has published an article on the Corner and Laura Purcell, Outreach, is working on a press release.
C. Webpage
Jeffery continues to work on updating and revising the Committee’s webpage.
D. Professional Development
Several committee members are presenting at TLA in the spring.
Registration forms need to be submitted for the May National Diversity Conference.
E. Geier update
Becky and Tiffani met with Aaron Purcell, Univ. Archivist, on the Committee’s ideas for an oral history project about the Geier decree. They concluded that such a project was beyond the scope of the Committee. Perhaps, instead, the Committee should pursue hosting and educational forum about Geier for library staff. Tiffani will look at collaborating with a campus group or department.
F. School of Information Science
Plans for a reception with SIS faculty were discussed for the end of February. The residency program would be highlighted.
III. New Business
LouAnn announced that the NCCJ (National Conference for Community and Justice) will sponsor a walk-a-thon on June 6th. The Committee decided to sponsor a team from the Libraries.
Abbas suggested the Committee participate in the International Food Festival in April. Abbas will chair the subgroup. Expressing interest in helping were Jeffrey, Maud, Dianne, and Jayati.
The next meeting will be January 29, 2004.
Respectfully submitted,
Molly Royse
