Diversity Meeting Highlights
May 16, 2002 Meeting
The Membership Small Group Report
Becky and Tamara led this discussion. The membership group presented two documents: a finalized list of criteria for committee membership and a draft for a call for membership. The call for membership was developed using procedures outlined in the finalized list of membership criteria. These two documents will be added to the Diversity Web Site immediately. The committee concluded that there are at least four vacancies to be filled. A suggestion was made to list the names of all current committee members on the call for new membership form. This information will be added to the What’s New section of the Diversity Web Page. The committee also suggested that update dates be included on each page of the Diversity Web Site. In an effort to reach all library staff, a Share News message and an all staff mail-out will be used to distribute this information. Tamara volunteered to do the all-staff mail-out on Monday.
All members, please read through the updated membership criteria.
The Forum Small Group Report
Maribeth led the discussion for this portion of the meeting. Tentative forum activities are as follows: Disabled Patrons Forum (fall after September 20), Intercultural Forum (fall after September 20), LSA Holiday Party, Forum for Recognizing Library Student Workers (Fall semester), SIS Student and Staff Recruitment Forum, Mentoring Forum for Students/Staff (Spring semester), Library Materials Collection Forum (Spring), and Geier Decree Forum (Summer 2002, some time between August 7 and 21). Jill and Tamara are spearheading the planning for the Geier Decree Forum for this summer.
LAMA Grant
Since LAMA has decided to fund an additional organization, the committee will be receiving only $500 instead of the anticipated $1,000. The group discussed various ways to raise additional funds to support the preconference program as proposed in the LAMA Grant. Aubrey Mitchell and Thura will accept the Grant Award at ALA in June 2002. Volunteers to work on the LAMA project are Becky, Jill, Molly, Tiffani, and Thura. Tamara will act as an advisor.
ALA Diversity Projects
Molly updated the committee on the diversity fair and diversity poster session activities plan for ALA. Volunteers and suggestions are welcome.
