Online Reserve Minutes 12.8.1999

Bayne opened the meeting by announcing that Anthony Smith will chair the
group for the coming semester. The goals for spring 2000 are to locate
faculty participation, set procedures, establish workflow, and construct a
publicity campaign.

Robertson unveiled the additions to the Short Bib. Edit window in the
training version of the Reserve module.  The ISSN field is now Temp,
allowing the entry into that field to be clear. The Online Reserve Project
requires two new fields: Online Author and Online Title used only for
electronic media. The standard Author and Title fields will be used for
tangible media. The Online Author and Online Title fields are not indexed
in WUI or WINCAT. When the record is inactive, the entries will not appear
in a title or author search.

The group discussed a basic reorder of the Short Bib. Edit entry fields:

Author
Title
Temp
Note
Online Author
Online Title
URL

Under a basic concern for standard file names, Robertson is to create a
script to generate unique file names. The File Name Script will run in a
telnet environment or as a web page, and a time stamp file name will be
created at a command such as "name".  The individual name can then be pasted
into the save text box. The File Name Script will eliminate the time consumed
by intuitive file naming and eliminate the possibility of reoccurring
names. A basic workflow pattern is yet to be established so the integration of the File Naming Script is to undergo testing by Smith. The individual files will
remain on the server, are easily located, withdrawn, and reinstated by the
Reserve Module.

The group is still to decide on the appearance of the interface for reserve indexes
in the web catalog. A clickable interaction beginning with a skip to alphabet as a
lead to an alphabetical listing of departments, followed by a list of offered course names and instructors, is a logical and clean page to consider. A standardization of course names is required for the Web Reserve Interface. Robertson will begin with the Web Reserve course interface.
