Online Reserve Minutes 7/25/00

Reserve forms are still in the editing stages. Jordan would prefer that the in-house form list the course information in one section and the instructor information in another. The web form is reaching final stages, but it requires minor editing to the loan period column, e-mail entry, and semester choices. At this time, the web form will not actively submit to Reserve. It will allow users to enter information and then print the form for submission to Reserve.

Bayne is in need of statistics for the Online Reserve Pilot project report to LMG. A count of files on gila will indicate number of readings converted and offered.  The number of student enrollments to the classes that participated in the Pilot is difficult to obtain. Smith is trying to acquire the information.

Student Fact Sheet.

Smith has previously set up an e-mail account for online reserve inquiries and questions. He questioned what e-mail address should be cited on the student fact sheet. The current Reserve account receives course info updates and other reserve mail. The group decided that the online reserve account is not necessary. The Reserve e-mail account will receive all reserve mail. The branches can edit any information leaflet to reflect their respective locations and Main Reserve will forward the branch library mail, if it is received by Main Reserve.

Jordan would like the information indicating reserve access through the online catalog to stand out on the student fact sheet. If a graphic catalog symbol, and/or a shadow box to make the statement pop up added to the line, the catalog statement will pop out from the rest of the information.

Some issues on workflow surfaced. When the Adobe copyright stamp is used the save location defaults to the plug-in directory inside the Adobe file structure. This creates a lag in workflow. Smith created stickers that contain the copyright statement for Reserve to place on the document before it is scanned. The default scan settings in the HP scanning application do not remain consistent between scanning sessions. Smith will explore saving standard scan settings for Reserve.

The public workstations in Main Reserve now contain an icon for the Windows and web client online catalog. The Windows client is not set up for active URL links. It is possible to enable hot links in the Windows client, however the Windows client is not available to users at other locations. To promote remote use of reserve materials, Reserve would like to limit the choice to the web client for continuity between library and home use.

The staff notes the need for an additional scanner in Main Reserve.  The Canon IR is not capable of scanning in color. Therefore, AgVet would like to retain the HP scanner for color use. Main Reserve will look into obtaining an another, possibly high speed, scanner for the department.

The online reserve information for staff page is ready to move to the internal web space of the Library. Venearo is updating Main Reserve's web page, and will add a link to the online reserve information page. Sedgwick can move the staff information page.
