Online Reserve minutes 7/11/00 Survey results. The survey results for the four participating classes in the spring semester of 2000 were compiled and prepared in Power Point graphs by Pam Sedgwick. The student reponses were very positive. Bayne distributed individual copies to the group members for review. Procedures. Systematic instructions with diagrams (Scanning on the Canon and Horizon Short-Bib + Item Records) were distributed by Smith for review and authentication by the group. Each member should take time to work through the sheets and verify that the instructions will be clear to student library assistants. The procedure for adding digital reserves to the catalog is in its final draft stages. Scanning permanent photocopy reserves. Main Reserve has begun scanning permanent reserve photocopies and has been able to iron out many gray areas in the process. The use of the reactivation field in the Horizon Reserve Book Room is still under discussion. In order to uphold copyright law, reserve staff must use the withdrawal date in the bibliographic reserve record. Reserve staff will regularly maintain the activation date, withdrawal date, and reactivation date on a semester basis. Overall process for Pilot Project Report. The procedure outline for processing reserves is also in the final stages. Bayne submitted draft 3 for the group to review. ILS Scanner. Smith, Jordan and Bayne will meet with David Atkins to discuss the use of the ILS Canon for batch scanning evenings and/or weekends. Jordan thinks that Reserve would benefit from their own Canon multi-function machine or a comparable high-speed scanner. Request Forms. The group reviewed the first draft of the edited reserve request form. Roberts will make the changes needed and distribute the second draft to the group. The PDF version that Venearo is working on may require nominal format changes to function as a template and an electronic form. Venearo will circulate her draft of the PDF form to the group. Copyright Policy. The Libraries copyright information for faculty is available at http://gila.lib.utk.edu/~plan/copyrt/. The document explains a variety of copyright issues. On that page a link is provided to course reserve: http://gila.lib.utk.edu/~plan/copyrt/reserve.html. This online reserve page explains the service, several alternatives to reserve (such as course packs), and provides a link to the Libraries’ copyright police for reserve along with reserve guidelines at http://gila.lib.utk.edu/~plan/copyrt/rsvcopyrt.html . Venearo and Bayne will meet to discuss updating the Online Reserve web page with the links to this information on copyright. Digitizing Service. Planning for a centrally-funded, campus digitizing service is underway with representatives from DII (Customer Technology Support, Emerging Technologies, IT Engineering), ITC, and the Libraries (Miller and Bayne). The service could be available to faculty as early as January 2001. It is possible that the center would extend services, for a fee, to the student body and the public later. This development creates the hopeful possibility of faculty maintaining their own online reserves to a growing degree through CourseInfo. Items to work on: · Work with Steve Thomas to slightly change the layout of Webpac main page so that the user does not have to scroll down to see the reserve links. · Creating an online reserve item type for the Music and AgVet branches. · Change some links on the online reserve information page. · Seek alphabetical sorting of reserve titles in the Webpac · Decide the best location for the (online) statement in the reserve record or change WinPac RBR short record template to allow longer title fields (unlikely).
