Digital Reserve Minutes

May 30, 2000

Smith announced that Bill Britten and Colleen Wiseman are joining our

group. Pam Sedwick is compiling the statistics from last semester. Digital

reserve sent nine surveys out and five returned.

Dr. Akin and Dr. Wright wish to participate in the Summer Digital Reserve

pilot.

Durman and Blocker distributed their evaluation of the electronic reserve

projects at Virginia Tech and UVA, Their impression UVA and Virginia Tech

are not staffed to carry all the workload. A central computing station

handles the digitization process. They have good technology assistance to

the faculty.

Bayne and Smith visited Georgia Tech and Emory. Georgia Tech started

digital reserves in house in 1995 They have one full time staff member

dedicated to scanning, and have a moderate electronic workload. The

E-res. staff is only responsible for scanning documents and creating

records. Two full-time and one borrowed staff member currently staff

Emory. They have a large workload of electronic reserves. Both Georgia

Tech and Emory are well funded and have technology support. They have had

time to nail down workflow and copyright issues and they have varied views

on file size and authentication.

Melba has completed a rough form for digital reserves for our review.

Smith distributed Bayne's Digital Reserve plan of action for review.
