Cathy Speck

photograph of Cathy Speck Cathy Speck currently works for the Knoxville-Knox County Head Start Program as coordinator for English Language Learners. As coordinator, she works with students, teachers, administration and parents; conducts assessments and evaluations for language learners; serves as translator and interpreter of Spanish; and collaborates with agencies and institutions to link children and families to a range of educational and social services.

She is a graduate of The University of Tennessee where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education (1996), a Master of Science in Special Education (1997), and the requirements for Spanish certification (2001). In addition to formal Spanish studies, Speck lived in Spain for 2-1/2 years. Before joining Head Start, she was a high school special education teacher in the Anderson County School System for five years and a Spanish teacher for the Knox County School System at West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.
