Mary Griffin

Mary Griffin is an attorney who became fluent in Spanish and indebted to the Latin American people while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 1988-90. She is a frequent speaker about child sex abuse within the Hispanic Community and has lectured regarding the Ethical representation of Non-English speaking clients as well as cultural issues when dealing with immigrants.

Previously, Ms. Griffin developed written healthcare outreach materials and radio spots in Spanish for statewide distribution. While serving as an assistant public defender assigned to represent indigent Spanish speakers, Ms. Griffin was instrumental in the standardization of Spanish language criminal court forms and hiring Davidson County's first full time criminal court interpreters.

Ms. Griffin received her J.D. from the University of Tennessee school of law in 1994 and her B.F.A from New York University. While attending law school, she received a National Lawyers Guild scholarship to represent migrant Latino farm workers in New Jersey and had an exhibition of her photography from Honduras at the Knoxville Museum of Art.

In Nashville, Ms. Griffin and Renata Soto co-hosted the radio show, El Café De Las Siete, which covered a variety of health, legal and social issues relevant to the Latino community. Ms. Griffin is currently an attorney for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.
