Wondering about how to navigate the new cultural and information landscape when working with Gen X, Y, or the Net Gen? Need a broader context for keeping up with/deploying/ explaining the latest information technology?

Gain new insights about the information society and postmodernism in order to engage patrons effectively and create confident, information literate citizens. Pamela Martin will invite participants to consider transformation that is broader than generational differences or technological advances.  She will help us to see opportunities afforded by a more significant societal change and will offer specific reference strategies and lesson plan ideas.  Discussion to follow if time permits.

Outcomes:

·       Understand theories of societal transformation in order to pinpoint challenges for librarians and future librarians who are in pursuit of information literacy goals
·       Get concrete advice for re-envisioning reference services in academic, special, public, and school libraries for traditional reference work and formal library instruction
·       Learn about some specific reference strategies and lesson plan ideas
