General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.A. and M.F.A levels in
Theatre.
Subject Description
The department emphasizes theatre performance, theatre history, dramatic
literature, theory, and criticism.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Theatre studies overlaps with English language and literature, foreign
language cultures and literature, architecture, music, and human ecology (costume
design and interior design).
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection. Materials in Russian,
German, and French are added secondarily. Materials in other languages are
considered selectively.
Geographic Parameters
Publications from the United States and Western Europe are primarily
collected. Materials from other countries are considered selectively.
Chronological Scope
The emphasis is on current research; however, no time periods are excluded.
Dates of Publication
Current publications are primarily collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is performed selectively.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
Scholarly publications of all types are collected including: books,
journals, playscripts, translations, dissertations, etc. In general, textbooks
are excluded.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
All formats of materials are considered for the collection. However,
printed texts, video, slides, and microforms predominate.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
