General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.S.S.W., M.S.S.W., and
Ph.D. levels in Social Work; to support the M.S.S.W. degree concentration of
Social Work Treatment or Social Work Administration and Planning; to serve as an
interlibrary loan source for students pursuing the M.S.S.W. degree at the College
of Social Work's Nashville and Memphis locations.
Subject Description
The program prepares students to provide skilled intervention leading to
the prevention and amelioration of individual and societal problems.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Social Work overlaps with agriculture (economics and rural sociology),
education (educational and counseling psychology, special services education,
human services), human ecology (child and family studies), interdisciplinary
studies (African-American studies, women's studies), law, political science,
psychology, and sociology.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection. Materials in other
languages are added selectively.
Geographic Parameters
There are no geographic restrictions to collecting.
Chronological Scope
Materials covering the twentieth century are primarily added. Publications
dealing with earlier time periods are acquired selectively.
Dates of Publication
No restrictions are placed on publication dates.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is primarily done for journal backfiles.

Scholarly publications of all types are selected.

All formats are considered for the collection.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Both the collection of the College of Law library and interlibrary loan are
sources of materials not in the UT collection.

Other Factors
