General Purpose

To support study, instruction, and research at B.S., M.S., and Ph.D levels in Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management.

The program emphasizes retailing, consumer sciences, and hotel and restaurant administration.

Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management overlaps with psychology, sociology, statistics, business administration, business law, economics, leisure, marketing, logistics and transportation, and planning.

Languages Collected and Excluded

English language materials are primarily collected.

Geographic Parameters

Focus is primarily on the United States, however the scope is becoming more international.

Chronological Scope

Emphasis is on current literature. Historical items are added secondarily.

Dates of Publication

Mainly current publications are added.

Retrospective Acquisitions

Retrospective collecting is performed to fill gaps in the collection, both monographs and journals.

Types of Materials Collected and Excluded

The types of materials added are primarily research journals, training manuals and handbooks, restaurant and tourism industry monographs, practical application journals, publications of national professional associations, and conference proceedings.

Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded

Primarily print materials are collected. Electronic and audiovisual publications are added selectively.

Cooperation with Other Libraries

No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.

Alternative Access to Resources

In addition to interlibrary loan, the collection of the UT Law Library is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
