General Purpose
To support instruction and study at the B.A. level and research by faculty
in Religious Studies.
Subject Description
The program covers the religions of different cultures in all historical
periods.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Religious Studies overlaps with anthropology, classics, English, history,
medieval studies, philosophy, psychology, sociology, Asian studies, and women's
studies.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection. Arabic, Chinese,
French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, and Latin are secondary.
Geographic Parameters
Publications from the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands are
primarily collected. Materials from other areas are added selectively.
Chronological Scope
Materials from all time periods are collected.
Dates of Publication
Current, as well as, retrospective materials are collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is highly appropriate in this subject area.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
All types of materials are collected. Emphasis is on scholarly texts,
research publications, and journals.

All formats are collected.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
