General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels
in Political Science.
Subject Description
The program covers five subject areas: American government and politics,
comparative government, international relations, political theory, and public
administration.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Political Science overlaps with economics, history, law, and sociology.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection. Materials in Western
European languages are selectively acquired.
Geographic Parameters
The collection is international in scope.
Chronological Scope
Materials of the nineteenth and twentieth century are primarily collected;
other periods are added selectively.
Dates of Publication
Emphasis is on current publications.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is very selective.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
With the general exception of textbooks, scholarly publications of all
types are collected.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
In addition to print formats, all formats are considered for the
collection.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
Machine readable datafiles are ordered on a regular basis from the Inter-
university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).
