General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at the M.S.P level in Planning.
Subject Description
The Planning curriculum has as its core the study of urban and regional
theory, planning history and theory, and planning methods. The American
experience is emphasized. Concentrations include land use, real estate
development, economic development, information systems in planning,
transportation planning, environmental planning, historic preservation planning,
and international planning.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Planning overlaps with architecture, business, ecology, geography, history,
human ecology, political science, and sociology.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection. Materials in major
Western European languages are selectively acquired.
Geographic Parameters
Publications from the United States, Canada, and Western Europe are
acquired.
Chronological Scope
Twentieth century primarily, materials dealing with earlier time periods
acquired selectively.

Selective acquisition of classic works only.

With the general exception of dissertations and textbooks, scholarly
publications of all types are collected.

Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
Students also frequent the libraries of the Metropolitan Planning Commission of
Knoxville/Knox County, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, and the University of Tennessee's Municipal Technical Advisory
Service.
