General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels

Subject Description
The program emphasizes study and research in Western philosophy and allied
subjects. Subject areas emphasized by the department are: the history of
philosophy, ethics, logic, philosophy of science, metaphysics and epistemology.
An emphasis in applied philosophy--especially medical ethics--requires that

Philosophy overlaps with classics (Greek and Latin philosophers), history,
mathematics (logic), nursing (professional ethics), political science,
psychology, religious studies, sociology, chemistry, computer science, ancient
mediterranean studies, linguistics, medieval studies, Russian and Eastern
