CDM Policy Statement - Industrial Engineering

General Purpose

To support instruction, study, and research at B.S. and M.S. levels in Industrial Engineering and M.S. in Engineering Management.

Subject Description

The program emphasizes the following subject areas: quality control, operations research, manufacturing processes and materials, production and inventory systems design, material handling systems and facilities design, human factors engineering, and mathematical modeling and simulation of complex systems.

Overlap with Other Subjects

Industrial Engineering overlaps with engineering science and mechanics, mechanical engineering, business (management), computer science, and biology.

Languages Collected and Excluded

English is the primary language. Secondary languages include Western European languages, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian which are acquired selectively depending on research and project needs.

Geographic Parameters

Publications from the United States and Great Britain are of primary interest with less emphasis on those from Western Europe and Japan. Materials from other areas are considered rarely.

Chronological Scope

Emphasis is on current research.

Dates of Publication

Current publications are collected.

Retrospective Acquisitions

Retrospective purchases are considered only under special circumstances, i.e., for new programs where basic materials (monographs, serials, and periodicals) are needed to update the collection.

Types of Materials Collected and Excluded

Scholarly and research publications, handbooks, association publications, proceedings, and advanced texts are collected.

Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded

In addition to print formats, all other formats are considered.

Cooperation With Other Libraries

Cooperative agreements are in effect with Martin Marietta Energy Systems.

Alternative Access to Resources

Interlibrary loan in a source of materials not in the UT collection.
