General Purpose
To support instuction, study and research at B.A., M.S., and Ph.D levels
in Geography.
Subject Description
The program emphasizes the following subject areas: geography of the
natural environment, biogeography, biological conservation, geomorphology;
spatial analysis, transportation and location analysis; Latin America, southern
American, and urban geography; non-metropolitan areas; land use; transportation
geography; geography of resources; geography of development; and regional and
historical geography of the United States.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Geography overlaps with geological sciences, biology, Latin American
studies, planning, civil & environmental engineering, history, and transportation
and logistics.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language of the collection.
Geographic Parameters
Publications covering the entire globe are collected. Special emphasis is
given to North and South America.
Chronological Scope
The focus is on current research.
Dates of Publication
Mainly current publications are collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is very limited.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
With the exceptions of textbooks, laboratory manuals and dissertations,
scholarly publications of all types are collected.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
Primarily sheet maps, atlases, aerial photography, globes, radar imagery,
satellite imagery, relief models, and reprint facsimile maps are collected.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlbrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
