General Purpose
The General Science fund supports the purchase of undergraduate and popular
materials in all areas of science and technology including science education.
Subject Description
The fund provides a means for purchasing materials in support of
undergraduate interests and writing assignments (such as destruction of the rain
forest, ozone depletion, AIDS); popular materials supporting interests across the
UTK community (such as companion books for science/technology series appearing
on television or titles about Hypertext, MS-DOS); science education materials
designed to provide ideas and techniques for teaching scientific concepts to
young students or lay persons; and technical writing titles that fall within the
"T" portion of the Library of Congress Classification schedule.

General Science overlaps with all areas of science and technology.

Only English language materials are collected.

Publications from English-speaking countries are collected.

The periods covered are not subject to restriction.

Current publications are collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collection is performed only under special circumstances such
as purchase of journal backfiles.

All types of materials are collected.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
All formats, including loose-leaf services, computer files, CD-ROM, video,
and microforms, are considered in addition to traditional print formats.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
