General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels
in English.
Subject Description
The program covers all areas and all periods of literature and writing.
Overlap with Other Subjects
The English department overlaps with cinema studies, medieval studies,
religious studies and women's studies.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language collected. Western European language
materials are added selectively.
Geographic Parameters
Publications from the United States and Great Britain are primarily
collected. Other areas are added selectively.
Chronological Scope
There are no restrictions in the chronological scope of materials added to
the collection.
Dates of Publication
Current, as well as, retrospective materials are collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is very limited.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
All types of materials are collected, but emphasis is on literary texts in
all genres, criticism, literary theory, biographies, folklore, rhetoric,
linguistics, bibliographies and research methodology.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
All formats are collected. Emphasis is on print, video, full-text CD-ROM
and microformats.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
