CDM Policy Statement - Engineering Science & Mechanics

General Purpose

To support instruction, study and research at B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels in Engineering Science.

Subject Description

The undergraduate program emphasizes engineering mechanics, biomedical engineering, computational mechanics and engineering materials. The M.S. and Ph.D. programs cover solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, computational mechanics, and biomedical engineering.

Overlap with Other Subjects

Engineering Science and Mechanics overlap with civil engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, mathematics, physics, and the biological sciences.

Languages Collected and Excluded

English is the primary language. Secondary languages include Western European, Asian, and Russian which are acquired selectively depending on research and project needs.

Geographic Parameters

Publications from the United States and Great Britain are primarily collected. Materials from Western Europe and Japan are added secondarily. Material from other areas considered selectively.

Chronological Scope

Emphasis is on current research.

Dates of Publication

Current publications are of primary interest.

Retrospective Acquisitions

Retrospective purchases are considered only under special circumstances, i.e., for new programs where basic materials (monographs, serials, and periodicals) are needed to update the collection.

Types of Materials Collected and Excluded

Scholarly and research publications, handbooks, association publications, proceedings, and advanced texts are collected.

Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded

In addition to traditional print formats, all other formats are considered.

Cooperation with Other Libraries

Cooperative agreements are in effect with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Martin Marietta Energy Systems.

Alternative Access to Resources

Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not held in the UT collection.

Position Responsible for Collection

Engineering Librarian, Jeanine Williamson

Corresponding Fund

Engineering, Carson, Granger

Other Factors

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this subject, a degree of consultation and coordination is required with the selectors for physics, mathematics, and biology.
