General Purpose
To support instruction, study, and research at B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. levels
in Economics, and M.B.A. and Ph.D. levels in Business Administration.
Subject Description
The program emphasizes the following areas: economic theory and history,
mathematical and quantitative economics, comparative systems, economic
development, industrial organization. international economics, labor economics,
public finance, and regional and urban economics.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Economics overlaps with agricultural economics and rural sociology,
ecology, geography, history, philosophy, political science, sociology and all
departments within the College of Business Administration.
Languages Collected and Excluded
Primarily English language materials are collected. Some Spanish language
materials are also collected.
Geographic Parameters
Publications from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Western
Europe are primarily collected. Other areas are considered selectively.
Chronological Scope
Emphasis is on current research. Classic texts are added selectively.
Dates of Publication
Current publications are primarily collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is limited and performed only in specific areas
and under special circumstances.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
In general, all types of materials are collected, but the emphasis is on
advanced texts, scholarly monographs, and research publications and journals.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
In addition to print, microformat, computer tape, and other electronic
media are collected.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
Membership in the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research
provides computer tape copies of data for statistical research, and membership
in the Center for Research Libraries provides access to some highly specialized
serial publications.
