CDM Policy Statement - Art

General Purpose

To support instruction, study, and research at B.F.A., B.A., and M.F.A. levels in Art and B.S. and M.S. in Art Education.

Subject Description

The program emphasizes the following subject areas: art history, art education, graphic design, illustration, ceramics, drawing, fiber-fabrics, painting, printmaking, sculpture and watercolor.

Overlap with Other Subjects

Art education overlaps with the subjects taught in the College of Education.

Languages Collected and Excluded

English is the primary language of the collection. Secondary emphasis is on Western European languages, specifically Italian and French. Tertiary emphasis is on Chinese and Japanese languages.

Geographic Parameters

Publications from the United States are primarily collected. Publications from Italy, France, the Netherlands, China, and Japan are added secondarily. Materials from other areas are added selectively.

Chronological Scope

There are no restrictions concerning the chronological scope of added materials.

Dates of Publication

Current publications, as well as classic texts, are collected.

Types of Materials Collected and Excluded

All types of materials are collected. Emphasis is on scholarly monographs, exhibition catalogs, museum catalogs, photographic archives, journals, historical and critical studies of artistic periods, specific artists and artistic media, and books with notable illustrations.

Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded

All formats are collected, including audiovisual and multimedia materials as well as items in microformats.

Cooperation with Other Libraries

No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.

Alternate Access to Resources

Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
