General Purpose
To support instruction, research, and field work in anthropology at B.A.,
M.A., and Ph.D. levels.
Subject Description
The program emphasizes archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural
anthropology, and zooarchaeology.
Overlap with Other Subjects
Anthropology overlaps with art, botany, classics, history, human ecology,
interdisciplinary programs, nursing, political science, psychology, religious
studies, sociology and zoology.
Languages Collected and Excluded
English is the primary language. Materials in Western European languages
are selectively acquired.
Geographic Parameters
The collection coverage is international, except for Asia, with emphases
on North America (especially the Southeast U.S. and the Appalachian region),
Brazil, and the sub-Saharan region of Africa.
Chronological Scope
All periods from prehistory to the present are covered.
Dates of Publication
Current materials are collected.
Retrospective Acquisitions
Retrospective collecting is selective and limited.
Types of Materials Collected and Excluded
Scholarly publications including monographs, serials, and topical essay
collections are added.
Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded
Books, periodicals, microforms and audiovisual materials are primarily
collected. Others are considered selctively.
Cooperation with Other Libraries
No cooperative collection development agreements are in place.
Alternative Access to Resources
Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection.
