CDM Policy Statement - Accounting and Business Law

General Purpose

To support instruction, study, and research at the B.S. and M.Acc. levels in Accounting and Business Law, and the M.B.A. and Ph.D. levels in Business Administration.

Subject Description

The instructional offerings of the Accounting and Business Law Department encompass a broad range of specialties within the field including, but not limited to, these five areas: financial and managerial accounting, accounting information systems, auditing, business law, and taxation.

Overlap with Other Subjects

Accounting and Business Law overlaps with economics, finance, management, computer science, industrial engineering and the College of Law.

Languages Collected and Excluded

Only English language materials are collected.

Geographic Parameters

Publications from the United States are primarily collected; those of Great Britain, Canada, and Australia are added secondarily. Other areas are considered very selectively.

Chronological Scope

Emphasis is on current research. Classic texts are considered selectively.

Dates of Publication

Current publications are primarily collected.

Retrospective Acquisitions

Restrospective collecting is limited to special circumstances.

Types of Materials Collected and Excluded

All types of materials are considered, but the emphasis is on advanced texts, scholarly monographs, research publications, and journals. Corporate financial data reports and the publications of professional associations and standards boards are also collected.

Formats of Materials Collected and Excluded

Loose-leaf services, computer media and microforms are collected along with all print formats. Audio and visual formats are added selectively.

Cooperation with Other Libraries

No formal cooperative collection development agreements are in place.

Alternative Access to Resources

Interlibrary loan is a source of materials not in the UT collection. Access to the collections of the UT College of Law Library is also important for business law.
