The year is 2007 and I have embarked on a fantastic study abroad trip to Japan for an entire eleven months. I am studying at Ritsumeikan University, located in Kyoto, under the Study in Kyoto program.

This site exists as a personal blog of my adventures in Japan - the ups, the downs, and everything in between. In addition to diary-like entries, I will include photos and the occasional video that I take during my stay. This is for anyone who knows me back home, as well as anyone else interested in what it can be like to live in Japan as an international college student.

The name of this site comes from a convenient combination of two Japanese words: benkyo 'to study' and Kyoto. （勉強＋京都＝ベンキョウト）

Also, if you see a bunch of funny text and can't understand it, that's Japanese! (Or, that's destroyed Japanese because you don't have your browser encoding set to Japanese). I am hoping that any friends I make in Japan can also get a little enjoyment out of my webpage, regardless of their English abilities, so you will find Japanese text dispersed all throughout.
