Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)
is a comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. CIAO features sources back as far as 1991. It contains a full suite of scholarly resources—working papers from 49 research institutes, policy briefs from 22 nongovernmental organizations, proceedings from 31 conferences, selected articles from books and 25 research journals, economic indicators, maps, country information, web resources, a schedule of scholarly events on foreign affairs, and a selection of monographs. Working papers, conference proceedings, policy briefs, and economic indicators are updated monthly; web resources and the calendar, weekly. Journal articles and book entries are added as they become available.

There is an interesting set of modules for instructors teaching courses on international relations. The modules are designed to help instructors illustrate key concepts, by providing historical background on crucial episodes in international affairs. The modules are written by some of the leading experts in the field of international relations. Each of these original essays provides a concise overview of an event (or set of events) that has important theoretical implications for the study of international relations. Further, each essay is followed by an extensive bibliography that includes web-based and published sources bearing on the case study being analyzed.
