Social Work Library - Wireless Network Instructions
UT, unlike Panera Bread Co., or Krystal, is not a commercial enterprise, which is why it doesn’t “broadcast” its wireless network ID and which is why you must go thru OIT to connect to the network. Why?
- Virus protection
- Security
- Laptop identification (in case a specific laptop catches a virus, the OIT folks will know which one it is---your machine will then be banned from the network until the virus is cleaned)
In order to access the network, a bit of configuring is necessary. If you’d like to do this yourself, go to http://oit.utk.edu/helpdesk/kb/entry/1294/ ---you will be guided step by step.
It is easier, however, to ask Ken Wagner, our IT guy, to do it for you while you’re in class!
