Beyond iMovie: Introduction to Final Cut Pro 7

Course Description

Description: Feeling limited by iMovie? Take your movie making skills to the next level and learn to use the tool the pros use. This demonstration class will cover the basics of Apple's professional level editing software, Final Cut Pro. You will learn to set up a project, capture clips, different types of basic edits, working with the interface, and using the media manager.
Course Format:
This hour-and-a-half-long class will be a discussion and demonstration only. Although there is not a hands-on section, attendees should gain a basic understanding of the software.
Prerequisite:
Experience using iMovie or similar non-linear video editing software and knowledge of basic video editing concepts.

Course Objectives

  1. Discuss advantages of moving from iMovie to Final Cut Pro.
  2. Discuss Studio services available to beginner Final Cut Pro users.
  3. Explore the Final Cut Pro interface and tools.
  4. Learn to set up projects and work with the Final Cut Pro preference settings.
  5. Learn to capture footage and import files into a Final Cut Pro project.
  6. Learn basic editing techniques and how to work with the timeline.
  7. Explore how Final Cut Pro organizes project files and how to use the media manager tool.

Course Outcomes

  1. Participants will understand the key differences between iMovie and Final Cut Pro.
  2. Participants will learn the features of the Final Cut Pro working space and understand basic tools.
  3. Participants will be able to create a new Final Cut Pro project with the ability to adjust preferences and settings for that project.
  4. Participants will understand how to capture footage and import digital files into a project.
  5. Participants will gain an understanding of how Final Cut Pro organizes files and how to successfully save or move a project with all necessary files in tact.
  6. Participants will know what services are available in The Studio to support them when learning Final Cut Pro.
