Special Collections Services for Teachers
What Can We Do For You?
The Special Collections Library is committed to providing University of Tennessee faculty, instructors, and other teachers a variety of learning opportunities. We support teaching and learning in the following ways:
- Faculty, instructor, staff, and student research projects
- Classroom instruction on how to use primary sources and the research process
- Assistance in developing assignments
- Making original materials available for instruction
- Classroom space on a limited basis
The Special Collections Library works with numerous departments, faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. We also welcome K-12 educators interested in exposing their students to primary sources and the research process. In particular, our staff have participated in National History Day and Teaching of American History grants.
The challenges of primary source research make assistance from a Research Services Specialist important in planning your classroom and teaching activities. Our Research Services Team develops teaching strategies, assists in creating assignments, and schedules instructional presentations.
When possible, we want to go beyond the finding aid to provide all of our users with the best that we have to offer. We have developed online tools to target materials before your visit including full-text searchable finding aids of a majority of collections, research guides for general introductions to subject strengths, and digital collections of material.
