Special Collections Services for Students
What Can We Do For You?
The Special Collections Library is committed to providing University of Tennessee students a variety of learning opportunities. We support students in the following ways:
- Access to original material for assignments, papers, theses, and dissertations
- Instruction on how to use primary sources and an introduction to the research process
- Career advice on archives, public history, and information science
- Employment opportunities as student library assistants or graduate assistants
The Special Collections Library has classroom space for instruction and our staff have worked with numerous departments, faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students. We also welcome K-12 students working on primary source projects such as National History Day.
The challenges of primary source research make assistance from a Research Services Specialist important in planning your visit to Special Collections. Our Research Services Team works with students, from novices to advanced researchers, in locating relevant material. When possible, we want to go beyond the finding aid to provide all of our users with the best that we have to offer.
We have developed online tools to target materials before your visit including full-text searchable finding aids of a majority of collections, research guides for general introductions to subject strengths, and digital collections of material.
