Biographical Note:
Harold F. Blum, a scientist, was born in Escondido,
California, on February 12, 1899. He graduated from the
University of California in 1922 and received his Ph. D. from
Harvard Medical School in 1927. His career in higher education
included posts at Oregon, California, Temple, Columbia, Harvard,
Princeton, the Naval Medical Research Institute, the National
Cancer Institute and the State University of New York at Albany.
He was the recipient of several fellowships and awards, one of
which was the Finsen prize on photobiology in 1976. He was also
an official in several professional societies. Blum was the
author of a number of scholarly books, among them, Time's Arrow
and Evolution and Carcinogenesis by Ultraviolet Light. He was as
well a frequent contributor to scientific journals and
occasionally prepared chapters for scientific treatises.
Scope and Content:
Blum's files are comprised mostly of notes on his irradiation of mice
experiment, manuscripts of his publications, and notes on several
other projects.
