This semester we are offering audio reserve materials for this course online. These audio reserve materials will be available to you from the campus computer labs or a personal computer with internet access. This page provides information about the service including where to find the materials online, what software is needed to listen to the materials, where on campus materials can be accessed, and who to contact with any problems that arise.

From the History of Rock web site http://www.music.utk.edu/mccollough/ you will have access to three pages of audio reserve materials.

The first page is this page which provides you with information about accessing online reserves, software and hardware requirements, locations to access materials, and password information.

The second page is a "frequently asked questions" (or FAQ) page at http://gila.lib.utk.edu/reserve/online/audio/faq.html. Throughout the semester this page will be updated with information based on your questions. It should be a good resource to check if you are having any problems with the examples.

The last page is the song list. This page includes the links for the audio examples needed for each exam and can be found at: http://gila.lib.utk.edu/reserve/online/audio/songlist.html

Campus locations to access materials:

There are a number of labs available on campus to access the History of Rock site and the audio reserves. For descriptions of these labs and maps please see the DII web site at http://dii.utk.edu/labs.html.

Headphones are required to listen to the audio materials in a campus lab. Hodges and Glocker labs each have 20 headsets to use. For any other lab you will need to provide your own headphones. The headphones should have 1/8" jack (the smaller, typical "walkman" size) and can be purchased in the bookstore as well as locations off campus. In the bookstore at the University Center, the prices for headphones range from $3.98 - $10.00. You may ask the lab attendant for assistance in connecting your headphones.

Software requirements for listening at home:

All labs on campus have the required software installed. To listen to the audio examples on your computer, you need to have the RealPlayer ® 7 software installed on your machine. The following information will assist you with downloading and installing the RealPlayer ® 7 software.

System Requirements for downloading RealPlayer ® 7 software at home:

Windows - 90MHz Intel® Pentium® processor or equivalent, 16MB of RAM, 14.4Kbps modem or faster, 16-bit sound card and speakers or headphones, Windows 95 operating system or later, Internet connection and web browser

Macintosh - Mac OS 8.1 or later, 32 MB RAM, 65MB virtual memory, 604 PowerPC (200 MHz or better), Internet connection, Browser support: Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later or Netscape 4.05 or later

Downloading RealPlayer ® 7 software at home:

RealPlayer ® 7 software is free to download from the RealAudio ® web site. To download please go to http://www.real.com/products/player/index.html?src=downloadr. You will need to close the pop up window that appears on the screen. Then your screen should look like this:

Choose the RealPlayer ® 7 icon (be sure to choose the free download, not the RealPlayer Plus‰ software) and follow the instructions on the page that appears.

Once the RealPlayer ® 7 installer is downloaded, open it (double click the installer icon) and follow the installation instructions.

Password Information:

When accessing the audio links from the song list page (see above for url) you will be prompted for your ph alias and password. If you do not know this information you can find it at: http://www.utk.edu/ph/. There are several parts to the site.

The first step is to search your full name in the directory to find out what your ph alias is.

Next go to the "Edit your own entry" section to make any changes to your directory information. This is the location at which you may change your alias. Use the help buttons if you do not know your password when entering this area.

Next go to the "Change your password" section to make any changes to your password.
