Q: What is my ph username and password?

A: Your ph username is generally your last name and your password is the first two letters of the month you were born (lower case), the last two numbers of the year you were born and the last four numbers of your social security number. These can be found and changed at: http://www.utk.edu/ph. Q: How do I view the title and performer of a song while listening to it with the RealPlayer ® software?

A: You can see the title and performer of the song by choosing "Clip Info" under the "View" menu.


Q: Why does the RealPlayer ® software not work with my mac?

A: The mac system requirements for downloading the RealPlayer ® software can be found on the History of Rock student handout at: http://gila.lib.utk.edu/reserve/online/audio/handout.html#soft. We have also found that some screen savers will disrupt the performance of the RealPlayer ® software so you may need to disable any screen saver before listening to these examples.


Q: How do I change the volume on the RealPlayer ® software?

A: The volume control on the RealPlayer ® software can be changed by clicking on it with the mouse and pulling it up or down. The volume control will be look like it does in the following picture:

If you adjust the volume control on the RealPlayer ® software and you still have no sound try adjusting the sound controls on the computer or headset. Each computer has it's own sound control panel. If you are in a lab and need assistance with this please ask an attendant.


Q: What can I do if the musical examples do not play smoothly or if I get the message that there is net congestion and the sound is disrupted?

A: There are several things you can try to solve this problem. The busiest times for the network are in the afternoon and evening. Try connecting at a different time. Another option is to change the connection speed on the RealPlayer ® software to a slower connection. To do this:
