Frequently Used Tools:

Online Reserves

The University Library's Reserve Service has expanded the scope of class reserves to include digitized formats for text, image, audio and video materials.

We are very happy to be able to offer this alternative to traditional class reserve material.

What It Means To Students and Faculty

  • All reserve items, whether traditional or online formats, are listed in the regular Library Catalog.
  • In some cases, both digitized and traditional versions of items are available to students.
  • Because of Copyright considerations, access to online reserve material is restricted to UTK students, faculty and staff.
  • Instructors may submit computer files or printed copies to reserve. If necessary, we will convert them (PDF format, RealAudio format, etc.) to make them available online.
  • Students are able to read or print PDF files using a web browser and Adobe Acrobat reader. Real Player enables them to listen to streamed audio.
  • Acrobat Reader and Real Player are available on some library computers and all computers in DII-operated computer labs. They can be downloaded free so students may access online reserves from their own computers.
